Kat and Finesse RF
Kat & Finesse RF (Ladybug) bested a field of 37 ponies last week at WEF’s $5000 USHJA Pony Hunter Derby placing Second Overall with 83 & 84. Her Goldhill’s Arresting Charm came into the second round in 3rd.
Charm had a good chance of winning clearing the field beautifully but sadly I turned left instead of right for the trot jump. Last year Charm won the Deeridge Pony Derby & The Ridge Pony Derby. I was really embarrassed but my Ladybug pony shined through for me. This is her first year competing at WEF with me.”
I love derbies and generally have great success. I won at this one the last two years with Charm in 2016 and Somekindawonderful in 2017. This year was very exciting because KEP Helmets & Ego 7 agreed to sponsor me just days before the show. I wore EGO 7’s fashionable line of Italian show clothes. Last year F.lli Fabri Boots sponsored me with my very first pair of tall boots, my favorite. They have paddock show boots too. Everyone was so gracious that I took second after making a major rider error. I think it’s important to admit we all make mistakes. It’s part of riding!”
Kat and Goldhill’s Arresting Charm
Ten Year Old Kat Fuqua arrives at Winter Equestrian Festival for the fifth year of competition there, but first time showing her new Junior Hunter, RS Levitation aka Jett. The two placed 6th in the Handy of twenty hunters with riders aged to fifteen years old. Here she shows for her first time in the International Ring with a clear round, excellent jumps.
Kat and Finesse RF capture Reserve Champion and Second in the Medium Pony Classic.
WEF6 also was World Hunter Week where Kat and her medium hunter pony Finesse RF captured Reserve Champion, and Second in the medium pony classic. In the same division Captain America was fourth in the Conformation class. With 30 small ponies, Kat and her Goldhill’s Arresting Charm are proud to place second, fifth, seventh, and eighth in the small pony classic. Last year Chic In Time was Circuit Champion in the large green hunter ponies, showing in the large ponies here and placed third, seventh and ninth of over twenty ponies.
Kat and her ponies and junior hunter plan to compete for the remainder of the Wellington season for the next six weeks in hopes of winning major championships before returning to her Collecting Gaits Farm in Atlanta.

It really is a wrap after three weeks at Atlanta Winter Classic, Kat and her Ponies & Junior Hunter braved the cold, snow and rain. It would not be possible without Michael Newman’s superb training & Pepe Escobedo’s quality care of Kat’s sport horses. The final third show of circuit ended with two Championships in Medium Ponies with Finesse RF, and in Small Ponies with Goldhill’s Arresting Charm who also won the Pony Classic with 85 & 83. RS Levitation won his Jr Hunter Over Fences and 3rd overall in the Junior Classic. Chic In Time won his Conformation Over Fences. Elite Show Jumping celebrated 2017 Circuit Awards this past Saturday night, naming Kat in 5 Championships for the year, Children’s Hunter High Noon 3E, Small Pony Goldhill’s Arresting Charm, Medium Pony Captain America, Large Green Pony & Large Pony both with Chic In Time.
Kat champions all three pony divisions again for Atlanta Winter Classic II with strong competition. Goldhill’s Arresting Charm wins Small Ponies, pictured here Finesse RF takes home tricolor in a field of 11 top mediums and Chic In Time placed top of 10 superb large ponies. Captain America claims first in the Pony Classic again with tough competition of 18 ponies. Kat’s Junior Hunter RS Levitation along with the ponies, comes back to compete this weekend at Atlanta Classic III after winning the Championship in the first of the winter series, and resting this past weekend. Kat is preparing for competition at WEF in Wellington in the coming weeks.
Aubrey Hill Equestrian honored Kat with the ride on their Medium Green Pony Sasha Fierce’s first show at this past weekend’s Atlanta Winter Classic I.
Kat earned five Championships with Goldhill’s Arresting Charm Small Pony Division, Finesse RF Medium Pony Division, Chic In Time Large Pony Division, RS Levitation JR Hunter Division and Aubrey Hill’s Sasha Fierce Small/Medium Green Pony Division. Thank you for the opportunity Aubrey Hill!
Kat received the USEF Leading Owner Pony Hunter Award last night in Lexington, Kentucky at the 2017 USEF Horse of the Year Awards Gala. Kat is photographed with USHJA President Mary Babick presenting the trophy.
Bob Bell, Principal of Classic Company, awarded Kat & Chic In Time 2017 Classic Company Circuit Champion for Large Green Ponies. Kat also received Reserve Circuit Champion for the same Pony, Chic In Time for Large Ponies. Classic Company puts on Hunter/Jumper shows throughout the Southeast.
